SAN DIEGO'S PREMIER FLUTE ORGANIZATION

2021 Youth Artist Divisions

  • Each Youth Artist division will have a preliminary recorded round. Six finalists will be chosen from the Preliminary Recorded Round to compete as finalists in the live final round. 
  • The Preliminary Recorded Round will include portions of the final round repertoire. Please read carefully below since the entire piece may not be required for your division.
  • The Live Final Round will be held on May 23, 2021. The final round will not be screened.
  • In the live final round, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes and Honorable Mention(s) will be awarded per the judges’ discretion. There are no ties. Judges' decisions are final. 
  • The Youth Artist Winners’ Recital, featuring performances by First Place Winners of the Youth Artist divisions, will be held approximately two weeks after the 2021 Spring Festival (date TBA). 
  • Youth Artist Competition Finalists MAY NOT also compete in a Festival Division, however they may compete in any or all of the Specialty Divisions. Non-finalists are encouraged to register and participate in the applicable Festival Division.
  • Previous 1st prize winners are not eligible to compete in the same division in following years.

C.P.E. Bach - Sonata in A minor for solo Flute, I. Poco adagio & III. Allegro, no repeats (Universal)

and

M. Warshauer - Bati l'Gani (I have Come into My Garden) for flute solo (Hildegard)


Final Round Repertoire / Program 

If selected to perform in the live final round, contestants will play:

C.P.E. Bach - Sonata in A minor for solo Flute, I. Poco adagio & III. Allegro, with repeats (Universal)

and

M. Warshauer - Bati l'Gani (I have Come into My Garden) for flute solo (Hildegard)


Plus the choice of  *one* of the following pieces (in its entirety):

E. Brown - Trillium (Quetzal)

or

I. Dahl - Variations on a Swedish Folktune for flute solo (Presser)

or

R. Muczynski - Three Preludes, Op. 18, for unaccompanied flute, II. Andante molto & III. Allegro molto (Schirmer)
