Happy New Year to All

We hope you have had a wonderful holiday season, and excellent start to your new year!  We at SDFG know how busy everyone is - especially this time of year, so we'll try to keep this brief!  Please scan below for some important registration deadlines, be sure that your membership is up to date, and that you're registered on time through our website so you don't miss out on any of these fantastic flute events!


Chamber Festival

Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 2 - 6 pm at Oak Valley Middle School

The Chamber Fest combines flute and/or mixed ensembles in a festival where students play in a recital setting and are adjudicated by professional flutists. There are 6 competitive divisions and ensemble members will be awarded ribbons based on performance evaluations.  There will be a command performance recital to follow the awards ceremony.  Eligibility and guidelines are posted on the event page online, and fees are $10.

Young Artist Competition

Preliminary Recordings Due February 26, 2017

Final Competition is on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Point Loma Nazarene University.

The San Diego Flute Guild invites you to compete in our highly esteemed Young Artist Competition.  There are $1750 worth of prizes awarded to the top three participants.  Flutists must be 18-30, members of the SDFG, and the fee is $50. All repertoire and preliminary round repertoire and recording guidelines are online.

Spring Festival

Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 9 am to 5:30 pm at Point Loma Nazarene University

Spend the day at our Spring Flute Festival, flute fun for all ages! This festival features vendors, competitions, FUNdraisers, exciting concerts and classes. It is our desire to serve the SDFG membership and provide the best possible festival for everyone. It can’t be done without our capable board and other volunteers. Please let us know if you are interested in assisting us with the 2017 Spring Festival.  Also, please consider sponsoring a competition, advertising in our program book, or showing your flutes in our exhibit hall!  Registration for attending the 2017 festival features discount membership pricing for those logged in to the site as a San Diego Flute Guild member

Festival Day Passes


Masterclass with Marianne Gedigian

Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 1-2:30 pm at Point Loma Nazarene University

This year during the Spring Festival, 4 flutists will be chosen to perform for our featured guest artist, Marianne Gedigian. Applicants may perform flute or piccolo solos, with or without piano, and any orchestral excerpt.  Priority is given to those who have not yet performed in a festival masterclass.  Performers must be SDFG members, and the fee is $40 if selected to perform.

Palomar Mountain Flute Retreat

June 20 - 25, 2017 at The Lodge at Palomar Mountain

Come join us at the Lodge at Palomar Mountain for a 6 day/5 night flute retreat! Daily Warm-ups, masterclasses, lessons, ensembles, crafts and so much more make this an experience you will not want to miss. Our Guest Artist this summer is Sarah Jackson, Piccoloist of the LA Philharmonic. Open to flutists grades 5-12.

6 day/5 night Retreat - $375

Includes accommodations, home-cooked (& dietary conscious) meals, daily masterclasses, ensemble playing, lessons, activities, two days with Sarah Jackson, (includes Guest Artist Day) and much more flute fun! Grades 5 – 12 Limit: 28 Campers - slots are going fast!

Guest Artist Day - $50

Includes Sarah’s classes during the day, her concert in the evening, and meals for the day.

If you are a member of a flute choir and are interested in performing in our Spring Festival, please email us by January 15th to request to perform.  Priority will be given to those who have not yet performed at our festival.
