2021 Young Artist Competition

Our esteemed Young Artist Competition is a showcase of the best flutists who are emerging artists in the US and abroad.

Open to flutists ages 18-30 years as of May 22, 2021.

Six entrants and two alternates will be chosen from the Preliminary Recorded Round to compete as finalists. Recordings are due Thursday, April 1st, 2021.
Finalists will submit a video recording for the Final Video Recorded Round. Video recordings are due Saturday, May 1st, 2021. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes and Honorable Mention(s) will be awarded per the judges’ discretion. There are no ties. Judges' decisions are final.
The Young Artist Winners’ Recital (May 23rd, 2021), featuring video submissions from the First, Second, and Third Place Winners, will be held as part of the San Diego Flute Guild's Virtual Spring Festival.
Entrants currently enrolled in an undergraduate program who are not finalists for the Young Artist Competition may register for the Collegiate Artist Competition at no additional fee.

Please note: the publishers provided are for reference only, and not required. Competitors may use their preferred edition, and judges will not consider the choice of edition in their deliberations.

A. Piazzolla - Tango Étude No. 2 pour flûte solo, with repeat (Lemoine)

Final Round Repertoire / Program

If selected to perform in the final round, contestants will play both recorded round selections as listed above, plus the choice of *one* of the following pieces (in its entirety):
