2018 Summer Flute Camp

Camp Dates: June 27th through July 1st, 2018


Come join us at Green Oak Ranch in Vista, CA for a 5 day/4 night flute camp. Daily warm-ups, masterclasses, ensembles, crafts, and so much more await. 


FEATURING GUEST ARTIST SETH ALLYN MORRIS

Seth Morris serves as Acting Principal Flute with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and has been Principal Flute with the Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet Orchestras since 2012. He previously held positions with the New World Symphony and West Michigan Symphony and has performed with ensembles across the United States including the Houston, Detroit, and Pacific Symphony Orchestras, American Ballet Theatre, and the Dallas Winds. Seth was a Fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center, as well as a member of the American Institute of Musical Studies Festival Orchestra in Graz, Austria, and performed at the Bay View Music Festival.

In 2015, Seth gave the Houston Symphony premiere of the Carl Nielsen Flute Concerto; he has also given concerto performances with the Bay View Chamber Orchestra and the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. Seth has won First Prize at the National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition, James Pappoutsakis Memorial Competition, Myrna W. Brown Artist Competition, and both the Kentucky Flute Festival's Young Artist and Collegiate Artist Competitions, and won the bronze medal at the Ima Hogg Competition. In 2008, Seth was acknowledged for outstanding artistic achievement by The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

In addition to his performing career, Seth has taught at numerous universities and festivals around the country. Apart from maintaining his own private studio, he has served as guest professor at the University of Michigan and University of Texas at Arlington. Additionally, Seth has been a Guest Artist or featured clinician at the Texas Flute Festival, Houston Flute Fest, Long Beach Flute Institute, Floot Fire Houston, Texas Music Festival, and Kentucky Flute Festival, and has served on the chamber music faculty for the Houston Youth Symphony. His articles have been published in The Flutist Quarterly and The Floot Fire Book: Advanced.

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Seth went on to earn a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music in Music Education summa cum laude at the University of Kentucky, a Master of Music with Honors at the New England Conservatory, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance degree at the University of Michigan. His teachers include Paula Robison, Amy Porter, Fenwick Smith, and Gordon Cole.

Green Oak Ranch

For over 65 years organizations from through-out southern California have held youth camps, retreats, Christian church functions and other events at Green Oak Ranch. Green Oak Ranch sits on 142 beautiful acres only 15 minutes from local beaches, and freeway convenient from the I-5 Freeway or I-15 Freeway. Our lodging accommodations include cabins that can sleep up to 300 persons (12 persons per cabin). Our 3 large bathroom facilities, and 6 private bathrooms accommodate large and small camps. Your group will enjoy meals in our Dining Hall, which seats 200 people inside and another 200 outside on our beautiful outdoor patio. 

Our Dining Hall serves three meals a day, to refuel and nourish your group for another fun-filled and active day. Our food service team is sensitive to your folks with special dietary and allergy concerns.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Open to students Grade 5 thru Grade 12 (Ages 10 thru 18 years). 
  • Students do not need to be members of San Diego Flute Guild to attend. 
  • Campers must abide by the rules and regulations.

Registration & Deadlines

  • Registration for The Summer Flute Camp must be received by June 10th, 2018.
  • Campers may secure a spot with a down payment of $100 prior to the registration deadline, but payment in full must be received by June 10th, 2018. 
  • Registration is available now.  

Fees

  • $400 for a 4-night sleepover camp (Wednesday - Sunday)
